Hiking in the blue ridge mountains

Submissions Are Open!

The Appalachian Free Press is always accepting submissions! We are a non-profit, reader-supported newspaper that wants to bring recognition to the people of Appalachia by offering them a platform to spread their insight to the whole world.

We are interested in publishing anything you produce, especially:

  • Stories about you and/or your experience with Appalachia
  • Photography and art
  • Poetry
  • Writing on Appalachian folklore and religion
  • Essays on politics, the environment, history, geography, or sociology of Appalachia
  • Criticism on the works of Appalachian authors, poets, artists, and filmmakers

We firmly believe in presenting Appalachia, with all its complexities, to the rest of the world. As such, we want to see what you think of the Appalachian region, no matter your political, economic, or cultural views.

When you publish your work with us, you retain all rights to your photography and writing. We are here to help build you up, not limit your potential!

To submit your writing or artwork for the next issue of the Appalachian Free Press, shoot us an email at appfpsubmissions@gmail.com or enter your submission in the box below for review. We will email you to let you know if we’ve accepted your work before publication.

We’d also love to hear about any of your undeveloped ideas, questions, or criticism. We’re always just an email away, and we really love hearing from you all.
